Tyson Foods the meat company that produces about 20% of the meat sold in the U.S., was sued for greenwashing on Wednesday. The lawsuit, brought by the advocacy organization Environmental Working Group, alleges that these statements are misleading because Tyson Foods has no real plans to achieve these goals. “Greenwashing claims are really targeting well-meaning consumers who want to do good with their money, who want to try to take some individual responsibility and purchase foods that are more climate-friendly,” said Carrie Apfel, an attorney for Earthjustice, an environmental law firm representing the plaintiff.
