6 must-have gifts to make your holiday travel easier

If you’re on the hunt for a holiday gift for the traveler in your life or want to treat yourself, Nina Ruggiero, an editor with Travel and Leisure, knows exactly what to buy.

“Travelers are looking for something functional but also with a touch of luxury,” she says. “So even when they’re in a middle seat they can feel like they’re on vacation and they have everything they need.”

From pre-planning tools to in-flight essentials, Ruggiero shares her top gifts for travelers.

Ban.do Travel Planner: $30

If you want a planner that does it all, Ruggiero recommends the Ban.do travel planner. “It has to-do lists, packing lists, maps, translations, currency conversions—it’s everything you would need to plan your trip,” she says.

Whether you’re a hyper-organized traveler or wait until the last minute, this planner will help you get out the door and on your way.

Zoppen Passport Wallet: $12

Keep all your essentials in one place with the Zoppen passport wallet. For just $12, the wallet will hold your passport, phone, travel tickets, credit cards and cash.

“If you've ever been in a long security line or traveled to a different country, you know how much time you have to spend taking things in and out of your bag,” Ruggiero says. “This way they're all in one place.”

Travel Cord Roll: $20

Whether you’re a traveler or just have a lot of electronics, keeping your chargers and cords consolidated can help you avoid digging through your bag on cramped flights or busy travel days. Ruggiero recommends this $20 option from UnCommon Goods.

Trtl Travel Pillow: $30

As an editor at Travel and Leisure, Ruggiero has tested out almost every travel pillow on the market. Her favorite: the Trtl pillow, which is different from the ubiquitous travel pillows sold in the airport.

“It's more of a neck brace that's wrapped in this super soft fleece; you can position it and then angle your head any way you like to sleep,” she says. Once you’re back on your way, you can fold it up and slide it into your bag.

Skin care products: $22-$30

Travel can do a number on your skin—the extra dry air or a departure from your usual routine could cause skin issues. Ruggiero recommends stocking up on a few skin care essentials.

“My personal favorite brand to bring with me when I'm traveling is IS clinical copper firming mist—it protects your skin from pollutants in the air and is full of antioxidants,” she says. She also recommends Lapcos masks, which she often uses midflight, leaving her skin reinvigorated at the end of a long travel day.
