Indian automotive manufacturer Bajaj Auto has opened a new 9,600 square metre manufacturing facility in Manaus, Brazil.
The facility houses both engine assembly and vehicle assembly lines as well as a testing facility. Initially, production capacity will sit at 20,000 units on a single shift basis, though plans are in place to eventually expand this by up to 50,000 units per year.
“The new manufacturing capabilities will enable us to build a wider distribution network, introduce new products and meet growing expectations of our customers. This plant also signals our commitment to Brazil, to building an ecosystem of partnerships and integrating further into the automotive industry," said Rakesh Sharma, executive director of Bajaj Auto.
The Manaus plant features cutting-edge automated production lines and advanced quality control systems. These systems include multiple conveyor and transfer systems that smoothly connect different stages of manufacturing. The use of the Protheus ERP system ensures streamlined operations across manufacturing, supply chain management, finance, and HR functions. Initially, the plant will concentrate on producing Dominar models, with plans to introduce Pulsar models at a later stage.
Bajaj Auto is one of the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturers with a global sales network spanning 100 countries. In India, the bike manufacturer has been upgrading its range of bikes including the popular Pulsar model in the last few months. The company is currently gearing up to launch India’s first-ever CNG-powered motorcycle in July 2024.
