Dalata Hotel Group, a leading hotel operator in Ireland with a growing presence in the UK and continental Europe, has secured Green Tourism sustainability certification for all 50 of its Clayton, Maldron and partner hotels.

The achievement signifies the company's commitment to minimising its environmental impact and promoting responsible business practices.

Dalata achieved the Gold standard, the highest level, for 48 properties.

Two new additions to the group's portfolio received a Gold and Silver certification respectively.

Dalata's commitment to sustainability extends beyond its hotel operations.

The company also achieved Gold certification for Green Meetings across all 45 hotels with meeting and event facilities in Ireland and the UK.

The Green Meetings standard evaluates a venue's adherence to environmentally friendly and socially responsible practices when hosting meetings and events.

Ambitious sustainability goals

Dalata's Green Tourism certification is just one aspect of its broader sustainability strategy.

The company has achieved a significant 27% reduction in carbon emissions per room sold in 2023 compared to 2019.

This aligns with Dalata's ambitious target of reducing energy-related emissions by 20% per room sold by 2026.

Dalata prioritises energy-efficient practices throughout its hotel portfolio.

Examples include the Maldron Hotel Merrion Road in Dublin and the Maldron Hotel Finsbury Park in London. These properties are built to a high building energy rating standard and utilise metering, LED lighting, and other technologies to minimise their environmental footprint.

Industry leadership in sustainable development

Dalata is actively pursuing participation in the science-based targets initiative for the building sector, further solidifying its leadership in sustainable development within the hospitality industry.

The company is also committed to minimising the environmental impact of its new hotel developments.

One example is the St Andrew Square building conversion project in Edinburgh. Designed to operate with zero on-site carbon emissions, this development has a significantly lower embodied and whole life cycle carbon footprint than a traditional new-build structure.
