Food and medicine recalls in your grocery store

Before you go grocery shopping this weekend, here’s a list of things you should NOT buy:

Frozen chicken nuggets: Perdue has recalled 32 tons of their frozen nuggets for the presence of wood particles, and now Tyson is recalling 18 tons of its frozen nuggets after reports of blue rubber bits in the product.

Fatal fruit: The FDA warns about listeria found in samples of peaches, plums, and nectarines sold at retailers like Walmart, Costco, Aldi and more. Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

Salmonella in baby spinach: If you’re a Whole Foods shopper on the east coast (CT, FL, ME, MA, NH, NJ, NY, RI) the spinach in your salads, pizzas, sandwiches and wraps may have been affected.

Infant ibuprofen: And parents who shop at Walmart, CVS, and Family Dollar Stores listen up: The drug maker Tris Pharma has expanded its recall of infant ibuprofen nationwide for higher dosage levels that can result in nausea, vomiting and kidney damage.

So far there have been no illnesses reported.

Things you SHOULD buy: Get a jump on your Valentine’s Day flowers now to save up to 50%. Americans will spend around $2 billion sending flowers to their loved ones this year. Most people wait until the day before when prices jump.

Measles outbreak spreads: A measles outbreak has affected children in the Pacific Northwest, and now 3 cases have been reported in Georgia. The measles virus is highly contagious, and unvaccinated children are at high risk. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website has more information about vaccinations for children.
