Paragon 28 has expanded its APEX 3D Total Ankle Replacement System with a new Right-Angle Drill aimed at optimising tibia preparation.

This new tool is designed to assist surgeons in drilling vertical holes into the tibia with precision, which is crucial for the correct placement of pegs and ensuring a stable interface with the tibia implant.

The Right-Angle Drill is the latest addition to a series of instrumental enhancements for the APEX 3D Total Ankle Replacement System.

These enhancements, including Polishing Blocks, a Square Tip Drill, and an advanced Off-Set Impaction Handle, have been primarily developed to refine tibia preparation.

Paragon 28 stated that the improvements are part of its commitment to advancing the long-term success of ankle replacement surgeries, with a focus on enhancing both the surgeon's experience and patient outcomes.

Paragon 28 CEO and chairman Albert DaCosta said: “We are thrilled to continue advancing our APEX 3D Total Ankle Replacement System with the launch of our novel Right-Angle Drill.

“The Right-Angle Drill is a critical step towards addressing tibia implant loosening, the primary cause of total ankle replacement failure. This drill enables surgeons with more precise preparation and promotes better implant integration, which we believe will result in improved long-term outcomes for foot and ankle patients.”

The latest development comes after the company launched the R3FLEX stabilisation system, aimed at providing an anatomical repair solution for ankle syndesmotic injuries.

The system offers surgeons the ability to adjust and visualise tension accurately during the repair process, which is crucial for restoring the soft tissue to its natural anatomy and reducing the risk of postoperative complications.
