U.S. Democrats to seek passage of PPP transparency bill: Schumer

WASHINGTON, May 5 (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Democrats on Tuesday will try to pass legislation to impose transparency requirements on U.S. Treasury programs aimed at helping small businesses cope with the coronavirus pandemic, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said.

The legislation would require daily and weekly reporting on the Paycheck Protection Program and other disaster relief programs, including downloadable data broken down by geography, demographics and industry, Schumer said in remarks on the floor of the Senate.

Schumer said that he and Democratic Senator Ben Cardin would ask the Republican-controlled chamber to approve the bill later on Tuesday. He did not specify a time.
