US added 12,000 jobs in October as hurricanes, strikes take toll

The US added only 12,000 jobs in October, far less than the 100,000 economists polled by Bloomberg were expecting. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1%, as expected. Average hourly earnings rose 0.4% from September and 4.0% from a year ago. However, the data was impacted by both hurricanes and strike activity.
