SEANA SMITH: We want to get to the latest out of DC. Vice President Kamala Harris swearing in three new Democratic senators. Jessica Smith, of course, is standing by. Jess.
JESSICA SMITH: Yeah, Vice President Harris did just swear in those new Democratic senators, officially handing Democrats control of the upper chamber. It was a little bit of a lighthearted moment as she was reading the procedural things. Before she actually swore them in, she read her own name, saying that this is a replacement for Senator Harris, and she laughed and said, that was weird. So just a little bit of a lighthearted moment there as she did swear in the three new senators, two from Georgia, one-- her replacement-- from California.
And in just a few minutes, we are expecting to hear from now Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. It will be his first speech on the Senate floor as Majority Leader. So now we're having kind of a new day in Washington, both at the White House and on Capitol Hill. We will see if the Senate takes up any of Biden's nominations tonight. That could possibly happen tonight, maybe later this week or early next week. But those are some of the things that we'll be watching in the next couple of days. But, again, three new senators officially in the United States Senate.
