AWS CEO Urges Office Return, Suggests Unhappy Employees Leave

According to a Reuters story, Amazon (AMZN, Financials) Web Services (AWS) CEO Matt Garman has advised employees who refuse to return to the workplace to consider leaving. Speaking at a recent conference, Garman underscored the company's dedication to in-person collaboration.

"If there are people who just don't work well in that environment and don't want to, that's okay; there are other companies around," Garman added, according to a transcript the news source published. He talked about the need for in-person teamwork with a disclaimer that the remark was not intended in a "bad way." "We want to be working together in an environment," he said.

Taking over as AWS CEO in May 2024, Garman said that creative juices are unlikely to flow without in-person contact. His remarks are effectively in line with Amazon's recent announcement from the present three-day minimum, a five-day office policy will be enforced starting in January 2025. As per reports, Amazon employees have reacted negatively to the new policy, expressing their discontent on social media. Amazon answered no calls for comments on the matter.
