Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has formally requested the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to recall its recent antitrust report on Walmart's Flipkart, Reuters reported.

The company reportedly argued that the report contains sensitive business data that should have been redacted before being shared with the parties involved in the case.

The CCI's investigation into Flipkart and Xiaomi began in 2021, with the report alleging that both companies breached competition laws.

However, according to Reuters, Xiaomi claims that the report discloses confidential information, including model-wise sales data, which could potentially harm its competitive position.

This is not the first time a major tech company has challenged the CCI's findings.

Last month, Apple successfully petitioned for the recall of an antitrust report that accused it of anticompetitive practices.

Similar to Apple's case, Xiaomi believes that the sensitive information in the Flipkart report could be exploited by competitors.

The CCI has not yet responded to Xiaomi's request.

If the commission agrees to recall the report, it will need to be reviewed and redacted before being reshared with the parties. This could potentially delay the resolution of the antitrust investigation.

The investigation into Flipkart and Xiaomi is part of a broader crackdown on e-commerce giants in India.

The CCI has also found that Amazon and Flipkart gave preferential treatment to certain sellers and engaged in anticompetitive practices.

The outcome of the Xiaomi case could have significant implications for the e-commerce landscape in India.

If the CCI finds that Flipkart and Xiaomi have violated antitrust laws, they could face fines or other penalties.
