The company has pioneered a new approach for the treatment of carotid artery disease called TransCarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR). TCAR combines the surgical principles of neuroprotection with minimally invasive endovascular techniques to treat carotid artery blockages that may cause strokes. The TCAR procedure involves threading a balloon catheter into the carotid artery from an incision near the groin to expand the narrowed artery. In parallel with the catheter procedure, another device, the ENROUTE Neuroprotection System (NPS), is used to temporarily reverse blood flow to the brain - thus preventing any broken off clots from reaching the brain and potentially causing a stroke.
